History
Lil Uzi Vert (born Symere Bysil Woods, July 31, 1994) is a rapper and singer from the Francisville section of North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who emerged in the early-to-mid 2010s as a leading voice of melodic, emo-inflected trap. Early mixtapes were released under the name Sealab Vertical; the switch to Lil Uzi Vert came after a fan compared the rapid-fire delivery to a machine gun. Producer Don Cannon signed Uzi to his Academy imprint, and a deal with DJ Drama and Don Cannon's Generation Now/Atlantic Records followed. The 2016 single "Money Longer" and the Migos collaboration "Bad and Boujee" (a Billboard Hot 100 number one) brought mainstream attention. The debut album Luv Is Rage 2 (2017) topped the Billboard 200, powered by "XO Tour Llif3," which earned a rare RIAA Diamond certification in 2024 after selling over 14 million units and passing two billion Spotify streams. The 2020 album Eternal Atake spent two weeks at number one, and its deluxe edition placed all 14 new tracks on the Hot 100 simultaneously, tying Lil Wayne for the second-most simultaneous Hot 100 entries ever, behind only Drake. Known for face tattoos, piercings and a diamond forehead implant, Lil Uzi Vert blends trap with punk and emo aesthetics drawn from influences like Marilyn Manson.
