History
Kelly Clarkson (born Kelly Brianne Clarkson, April 24, 1982, in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American singer, songwriter, and television personality who launched her career by winning the first season of American Idol in 2002. Her debut single, "A Moment Like This," became the best-selling single of that year in the US, and her gospel- and R&B-influenced debut album, Thankful (2003), entered the Billboard 200 at number one. She shifted to pop rock on Breakaway (2004), one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century, powered by hits "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes." Later albums, including Stronger (2011) and the Christmas record Wrapped in Red (2013), produced further chart-toppers. Clarkson has sold more than 82 million records worldwide and won three Grammy Awards. A genuinely unusual record: she became the first artist in history to top Billboard's pop, adult contemporary, country, and dance airplay charts at once, a rare feat of crossover reach across radio formats. Since 2018 she has coached on The Voice, earning the most winning contestants of any female coach in the show's history, and since 2019 has hosted the talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show.
