History
Halsey is the stage name of American singer-songwriter Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, born September 29, 1994, in Edison, New Jersey. The name comes from Halsey Street, a Brooklyn subway stop she frequented as a teenager. She built a following by self-releasing music online, signed to Astralwerks in 2014, and released her debut EP "Room 93" that year. Her debut album "Badlands" (2015) debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and went double platinum, powered by singles "New Americana," "Colors," and "Gasoline." In 2016 she co-sang "Closer" with The Chainsmokers, a global number-one hit certified 18x platinum in the US. Later albums "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom" (2017) and "Manic" (2020) topped the Billboard 200; Manic's single "Without Me" hit number one and earned a rare diamond certification. Her sound spans pop, electronic, alternative rock, and R&B, later shifting to industrial textures on "If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power" (2021). She has won three Billboard Music Awards and was named to Time's 100 most influential people list in 2020.
