History
Cassie (Casandra Elizabeth Ventura, born August 26, 1986, in New London, Connecticut) is an American R&B and pop singer who emerged in the mid-2000s. Discovered in New York clubs by producer Ryan Leslie, who signed her to his label NextSelection Lifestyle Group, she caught the ear of Sean "Diddy" Combs, who partnered with Leslie to release her music through Bad Boy Records. Her 2005 debut single "Me & U," a minimalist, synth-driven club track produced by Leslie, first broke as a hit in Germany before climbing to number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling more than a million digital downloads, an early example of the stripped-back R&B sound that later became widely influential in the genre. Her self-titled 2006 debut album, blending R&B, hip-hop, and pop with touches of Filipino OPM balladry, reached number four on the Billboard 200. She went on to collaborate with Lil Wayne, Akon, Rick Ross, and Wiz Khalifa, and released the mixtape RockaByeBaby (2013) through Interscope Records.
