History
Gunna is the stage name of Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, an American rapper, singer, and songwriter born June 14, 1993, in College Park, Georgia. Raised by his mother alongside four older brothers, he started writing music at fifteen and released his first mixtape as Yung Serg in 2013 before signing with Young Thug's YSL Records in 2016. His melodic, Auto-Tune-laced trap sound built a following through the Drip Season mixtape series, and 2018's Drip Season 3 pushed him into the mainstream. That year's collaborative mixtape with fellow Atlanta rapper Lil Baby, Drip Harder, produced the hit "Drip Too Hard," which reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100, went diamond, and earned a Grammy nomination. His 2020 album Wunna became his first number-one record on the Billboard 200, followed by a second consecutive chart-topper, DS4Ever, in 2022. That same year he was arrested in a sweeping 56-count Georgia RICO case alongside Young Thug, taking a plea deal and being released from custody by December. He has since kept releasing albums, including A Gift & a Curse (2023) and One of Wun (2024).
