Flyleaf
Grunge from the 2000s: fuzzed power-chord guitar, melodic bass, hard-hitting drums, raw and defiant in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
Style: Grunge
History
Flyleaf formed in Belton, Texas, in 2000, when vocalist Lacey Mosley (later Sturm) and drummer James Culpepper began writing songs together; guitarists Sameer Bhattacharya and Jared Hartmann and bassist Pat Seals joined by 2002, completing the lineup. The band played initially as Listen, then Passerby, racking up over 100 Texas shows before renaming itself Flyleaf after a 2003 SXSW set caught the attention of Octone Records. Their self-titled 2005 debut album, produced by Howard Benson, went platinum and blended alternative and hard rock with lyrics steeped in Christian faith, redemption, and struggle, delivered through Sturm's mix of screams and soaring vocals. "I'm So Sick" became their breakthrough single and landed in the original Rock Band video game, while 2007's "All Around Me" remains their only Billboard Hot 100 entry, peaking at No. 40. Sturm left in 2012, before the release of New Horizons; Kristen May fronted the band until 2016. After years of inactivity, Sturm rejoined Flyleaf in November 2022, and the group returned to touring.
