History
Paw is an American rock band formed in 1990 in Lawrence, Kansas. The original lineup paired vocalist Mark Hennessy with brothers Grant Fitch (guitar) and Peter Fitch (drums), plus bassist Charles Bryan, playing a mix of grunge, southern rock, and alternative metal. After recording a self-funded demo at Smart Studios with producer Doug Olson (while studio owner Butch Vig was still finishing Nirvana's Nevermind), Paw sparked a major-label bidding war despite having played only around 20 shows, and signed to A&M Records. Their 1993 debut, Dragline, didn't chart but sold over 200,000 copies worldwide within a year; its single "Jessie" reached No. 82 on the UK Singles Chart. The band toured with Social Distortion, Therapy?, Tool, and Monster Magnet, and covered "Surrender" for the S.F.W. movie soundtrack. A notable trivia fact: three Dragline tracks appeared in the 1994 racing game Road Rash, one of the earliest games to license music from several major-label bands at once. After 1995's Death to Traitors and a lineup shift, Paw left A&M, released Home Is a Strange Place via Koch Records in 2000, then disbanded, briefly reuniting in 2008.
