History
Puddle of Mudd is an American rock band formed in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1992 by singer-guitarist Wes Scantlin, who remains the only constant member across the band's history. After the original lineup broke up in 1999, Scantlin's demo tape reached Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, who signed him to Flawless Records and helped rebuild the band with bassist Doug Ardito, guitarist Paul Phillips, and drummer Greg Upchurch. Their major-label debut, Come Clean (2001), turned into a post-grunge and alternative rock landmark: the single "Blurry" hit number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the band's signature song, while "Drift & Die" and "She Hates Me" both topped the Mainstream Rock chart. Come Clean went triple platinum and sold over five million copies worldwide. The band toured with Linkin Park, Stone Temple Pilots, and Staind on the 2001 Family Values tour, and later albums like Life on Display (2003) and Famous (2007) produced further rock-radio hits, including the chart-topping "Psycho."
