History

Drake (Aubrey Drake Graham) was born October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Canada, to an African-American father and a Canadian Jewish mother. He first became known as an actor, playing Jimmy Brooks on the teen drama "Degrassi: The Next Generation" from 2001 to 2008, before turning to music with the mixtapes "Room for Improvement" (2006) and "So Far Gone" (2009). Signing to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment, he pioneered a melodic, R&B-inflected style of rap-singing that reshaped mainstream hip-hop. His albums "Thank Me Later" (2010), "Take Care" (2011), and "Nothing Was the Same" (2013) built his reputation, and "Views" (2016) spent 13 non-consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard 200, the longest run for a male artist's album in over a decade. In 2012 he co-founded the OVO Sound label with producer Noah "40" Shebib. Beyond music, he became the Toronto Raptors' global ambassador in 2013 and built ventures including the OVO clothing line and Nike's NOCTA. He holds numerous Billboard Hot 100 chart records for total entries and top-10 hits.
