History
Rod Wave, born Rodarius Marcell Green on August 27, 1998, in St. Petersburg, Florida, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter signed to Alamo Records. His sound blends hip hop and R&B into an emotionally raw style often described as "trap-soul," built around his gravelly, melodic voice and lyrics drawn from his own hardship, including his father's six-year prison sentence during his childhood. He broke through in 2019 when "Heart on Ice" went viral on TikTok and reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, the same year his debut album Ghetto Gospel hit number 10 on the Billboard 200. Pray 4 Love (2020) reached number 2 and produced his biggest hit, "Rags2Riches." SoulFly (2021), shaped partly by a serious car accident, became his first number-one album, followed by two more chart-toppers, Beautiful Mind (2022) and Nostalgia (2023). Notably, every one of Nostalgia's 18 tracks charted simultaneously on the Hot 100. He has earned Grammy, American Music Award, Billboard Music Award, and iHeartRadio Music Award nominations.
