History
Baths is the solo electronic music project of Los Angeles musician William Wiesenfeld (born 1989), who grew up in Woodland Hills after early childhood in Tarzana. Classically trained on piano from age four, he shifted toward electronic production as a teenager, citing Bjork as the reason he decided to become a musician. Before adopting the Baths name he recorded as [Post Foetus] and later launched the ambient side project Geotic, work that got him invited into the resident lineup of the LA club night Low End Theory. He signed to Anticon Records in 2009 and released his bedroom-recorded debut album, Cerulean, in 2010 to strong critical notice. His second album, Obsidian (2013), written while recovering from a severe E. coli infection, earned Pitchfork's Best New Music rating of 8.6 for its darker tone. Later releases include Romaplasm (2017) and Pop Music/False B-Sides II (2020), followed by GUT in 2025. He now self-releases through his own label, Basement's Basement, and continues making ambient music as Geotic alongside Baths.
