History
Tycho is the recording project of American musician, producer, and graphic designer Scott Hansen (born 1977 in Sacramento, California, later based in San Francisco). He also works as a visual artist under the name ISO50 and often designs his own album covers. The name Tycho references the 16th-century Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe. Active since 2002, the project began as a solo bedroom-electronic outfit blending downtempo, ambient, IDM, and post-rock textures with analogue synthesizers and guitar, drawing comparisons to DJ Shadow, Ulrich Schnauss, and Boards of Canada. Early releases include the EP The Science of Patterns (2002) and the album Sunrise Projector (2004). The 2011 album Dive marked Hansen's shift to a full live band, later joined by Zac Brown, Rory O'Connor, and Billy Kim. Tycho has earned two Grammy nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album, for Epoch (2016) and Weather (2019), the latter his first release built around extensive vocals. Later work includes Simulcast (2020) and Infinite Health (2024).
