History
Groove Armada are an English electronic music duo formed in London in 1996 by Andy Cato and Tom Findlay, who met through a mutual friend and started a club night called Captain Sensual at the Helm of the Groove Armada, borrowing its name from a 1970s discotheque. Blending house, trip hop, big beat and downtempo, they broke through with "At the River" (which sampled Patti Page's "Old Cape Cod") from their 1999 album Vertigo, followed by the Grammy-nominated single "Superstylin'" from Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub) (2001). Across nine studio albums, six of which reached the UK Top 50, they worked with Neneh Cherry, Richie Havens, Will Young and Mutya Buena, and picked up three Grammy nominations plus several Brit Award nods without ever winning. Their song "Hands of Time" appeared in the 2004 film Collateral. The duo played their farewell shows in Australia and New Zealand in 2022, though they returned briefly in 2025 for a remix collaboration with PinkPantheress.
