History
Way Out West are an English electronic music duo, Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren, who met in the early 1990s in a Bristol record store where Warren worked and bonded over shared taste. Formed in 1992, they built a progressive house sound rooted in club instrumentals and sampled vocals before shifting toward original songwriting. Their 1997 self-titled debut album followed the UK Top 15 hit "The Gift" (built on a sampled Joanna Law cover and later adopted as the theme for MTV's True Life) and the club favorite "Ajare". The 2001 follow-up Intensify produced "Mindcircus", which topped the UK Dance Chart. For 2004's Don't Look Now the pair briefly became a trio with vocalist Omi (Emma Everett). Later albums include We Love Machine (2009) and Tuesday Maybe (2017, via Anjunadeep). Beyond their own records, Way Out West are known for remixing Sasha, Orbital, BT, Paul van Dyk and Tiësto, and Nick Warren has continued as A&R manager for Hope Recordings.
