History
Bomb the Bass is the recording alias of English producer Tim Simenon, born in 1967 in London. The project began in 1987, initially conceived with producer Pascal Gabriel as the "Rhythm King All Stars," a sample-collage single for Rhythm King Records that grew into "Beat Dis." Released as Bomb the Bass in early 1988, "Beat Dis" reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and topped the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, launching Simenon's career as one of Britain's key sampling-era producers. The project's sound mixed hip-hop breaks, house, and acid house in dense sample collages; it evolved across the albums Into the Dragon (1988), Unknown Territory (1991), and the trip-hop-leaning Clear (1995), featuring guest vocalists including Justin Warfield, Sinead O'Connor, and Carlton. Beyond his own project, Simenon produced Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance" and Depeche Mode's Violator album.
