History
Timati (born Timur Ildarovich Yunusov, August 15, 1983, in Moscow) is a Russian rapper, singer, and record producer active since the late 1990s. He gained national recognition after appearing on the TV talent show "Star Factory 4," having earlier collaborated with fellow Moscow rapper Detsl. His sound blends Russian hip hop, pop-rap, and R&B, drawing on Western-style beats and local slang. In 2006 he founded the label and entertainment company Black Star Inc, running it as CEO until 2020, when he launched his own imprint; he later joined VK Records in 2023. His studio albums include Black Star (2006), The Boss (2009), and SWAGG (2012). Unusually for a Russian artist of his era, Timati built real bridges to Western hip hop, appearing on Fat Joe's "Put U Take It" and Mario Winans's "Forever" in 2008 and Snoop Dogg's "Groove On" in 2009. His 2011 single "Welcome to St. Tropez," with DJ Antoine and Kalenna Harper, topped the charts in Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania. In 2016 he headlined Moscow's Olympic Stadium to 15,000 fans.
