The Weeknd
Alternative R&B from the 2010s: 80s synth pads, gated reverb drums, sub bass, seductive and melancholic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.

History
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye was born February 16, 1990, in Scarborough, a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, to Ethiopian immigrant parents. He began releasing music anonymously online in 2009 as the Weeknd, deliberately skipping photos and interviews so the songs, not his image, would speak first. After co-founding the label XO, he put out three mixtapes in 2011 — House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence — that largely defined the dark, atmospheric sound of alternative R&B. Republic Records compiled them into Trilogy (2012), and his debut studio album, Kiss Land, followed in 2013. Beauty Behind the Madness (2015) and Starboy (2016) both topped the Billboard 200 and produced the number-one hits "Can't Feel My Face," "The Hills," and "Starboy." His 2020 album After Hours yielded "Blinding Lights," which became the best-performing song in Billboard Hot 100 history and the most-streamed track ever on Spotify. He was the first artist to pass 100 million monthly Spotify listeners and was named Forbes' highest-paid musician of 2025.
