History
Сироткин make dreamy, nostalgic indie pop in Russian, distinctive enough that similar young bands now get tagged as Sirotkin-pop. The project was started in 2015 by Sergei Sirotkin, who wrote songs on acoustic guitar with electronic parts and named Michael Jackson, Nirvana and Radiohead as influences. An earlier English-language song of his was used in a Gosha Rubchinskiy show at Paris Fashion Week in 2014 and later became the Russian song Бейся сердце, время биться. Keyboardist Vladislav Khaidurov joined early on, and the debut EP Challenger came out on Kometa Music in 2015. The 2018 EP Эхопарк opened with Выше домов, whose Tbilisi-shot video by Oleg Trofim led to an appearance on Вечерний Ургант. Later records leaned on 1980s sounds, first on the EP Добрый злой in 2021 and then on the debut full-length Тень первого облака in November 2022, which plays with nostalgia for Soviet dreams of the future. Their songs turn up in the film Вторжение and the series Чики, and listeners know them by unhurried melodies and a mood of half-remembered summers.
