History

Обе Две make wry, danceable indie pop built around the voice and lyrics of Katya Pavlova. The band formed in Yekaterinburg in the mid-2000s as a project of sisters Katya and Tanya Pavlova, who both wrote and sang. Tanya soon left for the theatre, and bassist Artyom Klimenko joined as the group's sound producer, with drummer Alexandra Kucherova arriving from Сансара in 2008. The debut album, Знаешь, что я делала, came out in January 2011 and was warmly received, landing on Fuzz magazine's list of the best Russian albums of the year. Offers of gigs and broadcasts pulled the band to Moscow later that year, but in 2012 it fell apart. Pavlova revived the name in 2015 with a new lineup and the album Дочь рыбака, and from 2016 multi-instrumentalist Dmitry Emelyanov took charge of the arrangements. A run of EPs followed, then the albums Мне это не подходит in 2021 and Циники in 2023. The songs are recognised by conversational, slightly ironic lyrics about love and everyday awkwardness, delivered lightly over tidy guitar and keyboard parts.
