History
Ravyn Lenae Washington emerged from Chicago in the 2010s, raised in the Pullman neighborhood in a family steeped in church music and R&B, soul, and hip-hop. She trained in classical vocals, opera, and music theory at the Chicago High School for the Arts, and as a sophomore she paid for her own studio session, resulting in the debut single "Greetings." That track led her into Zero Fatigue, the Chicago collective she formed alongside producer Monte Booker and rapper Smino. Her independent 2015 EP Moon Shoes was reissued by Atlantic Records, followed by Crush (2018) and its single "Sticky." Her sound blends atmospheric alternative R&B with house, synth-funk, and neo-soul, built around honey-toned, agile vocals. Her debut album Hypnos (2022) featured production from Steve Lacy and Kaytranada. The 2024 follow-up Bird's Eye leaned into acoustic rock and reggae textures, with guest spots from Childish Gambino and Ty Dolla $ign. Its single "Love Me Not" became a genuine trivia footnote: it didn't break out until a year after release, eventually climbing into the Billboard Hot 100's top five in 2025, which pushed her into a Coachella debut and an opening slot on Sabrina Carpenter's tour.
