History

Naik Borzov arrived in Russian rock at the end of the nineties with songs that were catchy in a way the scene distrusted and strange enough that it kept listening anyway. Malenkaya Loshadka is the case in point: a simple guitar figure, a nursery rhyme image stretched until it turns uncomfortable, and a vocal delivered flat, almost bored, which is what gives the song its edge. It became one of the tracks that defined what Nashe Radio sounded like in that period. Tri Slova works the same trick on a love song, minimal words and a hook that will not leave. Underneath the pop surface his writing is closer to art rock than to the guitar bands around him, and later records moved further that way, adding electronics, loops and arrangements that drop the drums out for long stretches. The constant is the voice, dry and unemphatic, and a habit of putting an absurd image where a rock singer would put a confession.
