History
Glintshake are a Moscow band whose sound moved from wiry English-language garage rock to jagged Russian art-punk built on angular guitars, odd stresses and deliberately strange words. The group formed in 2012 around singer and guitarist Ekaterina Shilonosova and guitarist Yevgeny Gorbunov, who had met in Kazan before both ended up in Moscow. Early on they opened for The Smashing Pumpkins in 2013, and their debut album «Eyebones» (2014) drew on 1990s alternative rock and psychedelic guitar noise. Around 2015 the band announced a sharp turn: they began singing in Russian and named Звуки Му and the Russian avant-garde as their new reference points. The result was «ОЭЩ МАГЗИУ» (2016), a record whose title reads like a sound poem and whose songs lean on repetition, off-kilter rhythms and chanted syllables. «Польза» (2018) and «Гибкий график» (2020) continued in that direction. Glintshake are recognisable by Shilonosova's clipped, theatrical delivery over twitching post-punk guitars and a rhythm section that keeps everything slightly off balance.
