Style recipe for Suno v5
Art Punk
Art punk from the 1980s: angular guitar, melodic bass, odd meter drums, defiant and playful in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Art punk kept punk's rawness but let in what the three-chord bands threw out: poetry, avant-garde music, abstract art and art-school habits. The term surfaced on December 12, 1977, when Stanley Mieses of Melody Maker used "art-punk" for Devo, and it stuck to post-punk era bands judged too clever for punk dogma, sometimes as an insult. The roots run through the Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart and Lou Reed, krautrock groups like Can, and Roxy Music, whose Brian Eno later produced Devo. New York's CBGB scene came next: Patti Smith's 1975 debut Horses, produced by John Cale, was later called essentially the first art punk album, and Talking Heads formed while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design. In Britain, where state grants gave art students three years to do what they liked, Wire opened with Pink Flag in late 1977 and Leeds bands such as Gang of Four came through art education. The sound leans on angular guitar riffs, intricate rhythms and borrowings from dub, funk and free jazz. In the late Soviet 1980s Zvuki Mu and Auktyon worked the same ground, and Andrei Knyazev described Korol i Shut's 2010 album Teatr Demona as art punk.
