History

Euromasters made gabber in its rawest, rowdiest early form: distorted kick drums at punishing tempos, crude synth stabs and shouted Dutch lines built for a packed hall rather than the radio. The act came out of Rotterdam in the early 1990s, from the circle around Rotterdam Records, and its best known tracks sound like terrace chants dropped on top of a drum machine. "Amsterdam Waar Lech Dat Dan?", roughly "Amsterdam, where is that?" in Rotterdam slang, turned the old rivalry between the two cities into a hardcore anthem, and "Alles Naar De Klote" had the same blunt, sneering humour. Different producers worked behind the name over the years. Euromasters belong to the moment when gabber was still a local working class party music with a strong sense of place, before it hardened into a more technical style. Listeners recognise them by the Rotterdam pride, the football chant energy and the deliberately rough, almost punk production.
