History
Dr. Dre (Andre Romell Young, born February 18, 1965, in Compton, California) is an American rapper, record producer, and record executive, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in hip hop production. He co-founded N.W.A in 1986 alongside Eazy-E and Ice Cube; the group's 1988 album "Straight Outta Compton" helped define gangsta rap. After leaving N.W.A in 1992, Dre co-founded Death Row Records and released his solo debut "The Chronic," which introduced the synth-heavy, funk-sampling "G-funk" sound and included the hit "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang." At Death Row he also shaped Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" and produced Tupac Shakur's "California Love." In 1996 he founded Aftermath Entertainment, later signing and producing Eminem's breakthrough "The Slim Shady LP," and went on to launch the careers of 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar. He has won multiple Grammy Awards, including Producer of the Year, and co-founded Beats Electronics, sold to Apple in 2014 for roughly $3 billion.
