History
Client are an English electronic duo formed in London in 2002, initially performing anonymously as Client A and Client B, their faces hidden from publicity photos. The lineup was later revealed as Kate Holmes, previously of Frazier Chorus and Technique, and Sarah Blackwood, lead singer of Dubstar. Their sound fused electroclash and synth-pop with the icy discipline of new wave, citing Kraftwerk, Joy Division and the Human League as influences. Client became known for performing in airline-hostess or fetish-inspired uniforms, a visual trademark as memorable as their music. They were the first act signed to Depeche Mode member Andy Fletcher's label Toast Hawaii, and toured with both Depeche Mode and Erasure. Guest collaborators across five studio albums (Client, 2003; City, 2004; Heartland, 2007; Command, 2009; Authority, 2014) included Martin Gore of Depeche Mode, Carl Barat and Pete Doherty of the Libertines, and Nitzer Ebb's Douglas McCarthy. Their biggest UK hit, "Pornography", reached number 22 in 2005. Blackwood departed in 2010, replaced by Nicole Thomas; the band has been on indefinite hiatus since 2014.
