History
The Presets are an Australian electronic duo, Julian Hamilton (vocals, keyboards) and Kim Moyes (drums, keyboards), who met in 1995 as classical music students at the Sydney Conservatorium and formed the group in Sydney in 2003 after leaving an earlier project called Prop. Signed to Modular Recordings, they released two EPs before their 2005 debut album Beams, then spent two years touring, including as the Australian support act for Daft Punk. Their 2008 follow-up, Apocalypso, debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and swept six ARIA Awards including Album of the Year; the duo also won an APRA Songwriters of the Year award and a Best Dance Release ARIA for "Talk Like That" in 2009. Later albums Pacifica (2012) and Hi Viz (2018) followed, and the pair have remixed tracks for artists including Kings of Leon, Silverchair and Lenny Kravitz. Blending electropop, electro house, dance-punk and synthpop with a reputation for high-energy live shows, The Presets are regarded as key figures in Australia's late-2000s dance music boom.
