History
La Roux is an English synth-pop project formed in London in 2008 by singer Elly Jackson and producer Ben Langmaid, who had met in 2006 and first performed together under the name Automan before adopting the La Roux name (French for "the red-haired one"). Their self-titled 2009 debut album became a critical and commercial breakthrough, driven by singles "In for the Kill" and "Bulletproof," the latter reaching the US Top Ten. In 2011 the album won the Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album, beating releases from Goldfrapp and the Chemical Brothers. Jackson also lent vocals to Kanye West's "All of the Lights." Langmaid left during work on the follow-up, and Jackson continued alone under the La Roux name, releasing "Trouble in Paradise" (2014) and the self-released "Supervision" (2020). Known for Jackson's androgynous look and sharp falsetto over sparse '80s-influenced electronic production, La Roux remains one of the defining acts of Britain's late-2000s synth-pop revival.
