History
Britney Spears was born December 2, 1981, in McComb, Mississippi, and began performing as a child, appearing in the stage musical Ruthless! and as a cast member of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club in the mid-1990s before signing with Jive Records in 1997. Her 1998 debut single "...Baby One More Time" topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the best-selling singles in history, launching her as the best-selling teenage artist of all time. Working in the pop genre and dubbed the "Princess of Pop," she released a run of albums including Oops!... I Did It Again (2000), Britney (2001), and In the Zone (2003), whose single "Toxic" won a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, followed by Blackout (2007). With "Womanizer," "3," and "Hold It Against Me," she became only the third woman to score a number-one Hot 100 hit in three separate decades. From 2008 to 2021 she recorded and toured under a court-ordered conservatorship before publicly testifying to have it dissolved. She has sold an estimated 150 million records worldwide.
