History
2562 is the main alias of Dutch producer Dave Huismans from The Hague, and his records sit at the point where dubstep meets techno: half-step rhythms and deep sub-bass handled with the precision, restraint and hypnotic repetition of a techno producer. He bought his first laptop for making music in 2003 without any formal musical training. The debut album Aerial came out in 2008 on Tectonic, the Bristol label that was central to dubstep's more experimental wing, and was praised for showing how far the genre could stretch. Unbalance followed in 2009 and Fever in 2011, the latter drawing on sampled disco and funk fragments while keeping the same clipped, minimal framework. Under the name A Made Up Sound he explored rougher, more broken techno and outsider house. His tracks tend to be spacious and dry, with snares that snap cleanly, bass that rolls rather than wobbles and small percussive details doing the work that drama would do elsewhere. The project gives itself away through that cool, engineered feel and dubstep's weight carried with a techno pulse.
