History
John Digweed is a British DJ and producer, born January 1, 1967, in Hastings, England, where he began DJing at 15 and later ran club nights on Hastings Pier. His breakthrough came in 1993 when a demo mixtape reached Renaissance nightclub founder Geoff Oakes, sparking a long partnership with fellow DJ Sasha (Alexander Coe). Together they released Renaissance: The Mix Collection (1994), regarded as the first strategically marketed club compilation, followed by the Northern Exposure series. Digweed became a leading figure in progressive house, founding Bedrock Records and producing as Bedrock with Nick Muir; their track "For What You Dream Of" appeared in Trainspotting (1996), and the duo later scored MTV's Spider-Man: The New Animated Series (2003). From 1997 to 2001 he and Sasha held a monthly residency at New York's Twilo club, ending when the venue was raided by police and shut down. Digweed was voted DJ Mag's No. 1 DJ in 2001 and hosted the long-running Transitions radio show from 2000 to 2011 and beyond. His brother George Digweed is a 28-time World Clay Shooting Champion.
