History
Junkie XL is the solo alias of Dutch producer and composer Tom Holkenborg, born 8 December 1967 in Lichtenvoorde, Netherlands. Classically trained by his mother from age three, he played in new wave band Weekend at Waikiki and industrial rock outfit Nerve before launching Junkie XL in 1997 with the album "Saturday Teenage Kick," followed by "Big Sounds of the Drags" (1999) - both built on breakbeat rhythms fused with rock and psychedelia, often featuring vocals from Urban Dance Squad's Patrick Tilon. His breakthrough came in 2002 with a remix of Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Conversation," commissioned for a Nike World Cup ad: it became the first Presley track his estate ever allowed to be remixed, and it hit No. 1 in 24 countries, including the UK, Japan, Australia and Mexico. The follow-up, 2003's "Radio JXL," paired him with Robert Smith, Dave Gahan and Chuck D. Holkenborg later shifted almost entirely into film scoring, composing for "Mad Max: Fury Road," "Deadpool" and several DC and Godzilla blockbusters.
