Style recipe for Suno v5
Singer-Songwriter
Acoustic singer-songwriter from the 1970s: fingerpicked acoustic guitar, pounding piano octaves, drawbar organ swell, nostalgic and swaggering in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
A singer-songwriter writes the words and the tune and then sings them, usually alone with an acoustic guitar or a piano, and the records tend to stay spare so the song carries the weight. The role is old: bards chanted poems over a harp, ballad sellers hawked printed songs, and phonograph records turned performers like Hank Williams into celebrities. The phrase is on record from 1949 but caught on in the 1960s, after the American folk revival. Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger wrote topical songs for union rallies, Guthrie's Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos) among them, and that habit of singing about the issues of the day stayed with the genre. Then Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen turned inward and wrote in the first person, which got the style tagged confessional and sensitive, not always kindly. Carole King, until then mostly a writer for others, started releasing records as a performer. Other countries found their own words for it: cantautori in Italy, bards in the Soviet Union, where Bulat Okudzhava and Vladimir Vysotsky sang to a single guitar. By 2008 home software was enough: Erykah Badu made New Amerykah Part One in GarageBand.
