Style recipe for Suno v5
Post-Rock
Post rock from the 2000s: tremolo guitars, reverb guitar, swelling drums, melancholic and triumphant in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Post-rock uses rock instruments for jobs rock was never built to do. Guitars become generators of texture through alternate tunings, delay, EBows and loops, drums borrow the hypnotic motorik beat of krautrock and the space of dub, and vocals, when they appear at all, turn into one more layer of sound. The roots run through The Velvet Underground, krautrock and the minimalism of Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Brian Eno, and Talk Talk and Slint made the foundational records at the turn of the 1990s. Simon Reynolds popularized the name in a 1994 review of Bark Psychosis' Hex and defined it as using rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes, only to learn later that the word was older than his usage; a 1967 Time cover story on the Beatles had already praised their post-rock sounds. English acts such as Seefeel turned the studio into part of the composition. Tortoise's Millions Now Living Will Never Die (1996) fixed the term in criticism, Scotland's Mogwai became one of the most influential bands of the era, and after Ágætis byrjun (1999) Sigur Rós grew into one of the most popular of the 2000s, the decade when the word narrowed to dramatic, slow-building instrumental rock.
