Style recipe for Suno v5
Slowcore
Slowcore rock from the 1990s: clean guitar, sparse drums, bass guitar, melancholic and intimate in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Slowcore took shape in the United States in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a quiet refusal of grunge. Where grunge roared through Marshall amps, these bands slowed the tempo almost to a halt, kept the instruments sparse and sang plain, melancholy lyrics in calm, subdued voices. Chris Brokaw of Codeine joked that he could hit the snare, go get a drink and be back at the kit before the next beat. American Music Club, formed in San Francisco in 1982, came early, and Galaxie 500's On Fire (1989) strongly shaped what followed. Codeine, Red House Painters and Bedhead made key records in the 1990s, but the sound now meant by slowcore was fixed by Low, starting with I Could Live in Hope in 1994. Low's Alan Sparhawk said a friend coined the word as a joke, while Bedhead's Matt Kadane called it an insult. Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai summed up the appeal: nobody played it at parties, but it was beautiful. The twin tag sadcore went to Cat Power and to Lana Del Rey, who called her music Hollywood sadcore in 2011, while Phoebe Bridgers has said she hates the sad girl label.
