Style recipe for Suno v5
Christian Hip-Hop
Christian hip-hop from the 2010s: gospel choir stack, warm sub bass, crisp hi hats, triumphant and anthemic in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
History
Christian hip-hop, first called gospel rap, came out of American urban music and Christian media in the 1980s. The first record was cut in 1982 by Pete Harrison of Queens, New York, who as McSweet released "The Gospel Beat: Jesus Christ"; the first full album, Stephen Wiley's Bible Break, followed in 1985, and its title track became a Christian radio hit a year later. The sound moved with the times: P.I.D. recorded to funky rock rhythms in the mid-1980s, and around the turn of the 2000s Pettidee brought in a Southern sound with crunk-influenced production. Labels did much of the building. Gotee Records was co-founded in 1994 by dc Talk's Toby McKeehan, and Reach Records was set up by Lecrae and Ben Washer in 2004. Lecrae's album Gravity then won Best Gospel Album at the 55th Grammys, the first time a hip-hop artist took that category. In 2019 Kanye West released Jesus Is King and played an Easter Sunday Service set at Coachella with Chance the Rapper and Kid Cudi. Many younger artists, NF and Andy Mineo among them, describe themselves as hip-hop artists who happen to be openly Christian, and some refuse the Christian music label.
