History

Redimi2, the stage name of Willy González, is a Dominican rapper and songwriter who is widely credited as the first artist to release a Christian hip hop album in the Dominican Republic. He started in 1999 in the group Redimi2 Squad alongside his brother, and when the other members left he kept the name for himself. Combinación Mortal came out in 2000, and over the following decades he became one of the most prolific acts in Spanish-language Christian urban music, with records such as the Exterminador series, Pura Sal and Trapstornadores. His style moves between hard-edged rap, reggaeton rhythms and later trap, carrying direct, sometimes combative lyrics about faith. He collaborates widely: with Vico C, Funky, Alex Zurdo and Manny Montes from Puerto Rico, and with Christian singers such as Lucía Parker and Jesús Adrián Romero. With Funky he made the album Más, which won the Arpa Award for best urban album, and with Funky and Alex Zurdo he formed the trio project UNO. He is recognised by a fast, confident flow, Dominican swagger and heavy, modern production.
