History
Truth are a production duo from Christchurch, New Zealand, known for deep, dark and heavy dubstep at 140 beats per minute, built on minimal arrangements, atmosphere and weighty bass drops. Andre Fernandez and Tristan Roake formed the project in 2007, and their sound draws on dub, reggae, drum and bass and hip-hop. Their first single, 'The Fatman' backed with 'Stolen Children', came out in 2009 on Mala's Deep Medi Musik, and the album Puppets followed in 2010. Their Devil's Hands EP was later used in the TV series American Horror Story. In 2014 they launched their own imprint, Deep Dark & Dangerous, which became a focal point for the darker, slower side of the genre. Over the years they have released on labels such as Tempa, Wakaan and Disciple and worked with Youngsta and N-Type among others, dividing their time between New Zealand and Portland, Oregon. Listeners recognise Truth by patient build-ups, sparse percussion and drops that rely on low-end weight rather than noise.
