History
Stigmata is a Russian metalcore band that formed in Saint Petersburg in 2000, initially without a name; the group adopted "Stigmata" in 2003 after founding member Denis Kichenko picked the word simply for how it sounded, not for any religious meaning. Blending metalcore with alternative metal, nu-metal, and electronic-rock elements, the band built a following through relentless touring across Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and the Baltic states. Their breakthrough came with the 2007 single "Сентябрь" ("September"), which became a hit among Russian emo-scene fans and later resurfaced online as the nostalgic meme "Сентябрь горит" ("September is burning"). Stigmata has released six studio albums, including the debut Конвейер снов (2004), the Navigator Records-backed self-titled Stigmata (2007), and Основано на реальных событиях (2012), the last produced with Finnish producer Anssi Kippo, known for his work with Children of Bodom. The band has opened for Ozzy Osbourne (2010), Slipknot (2011), and Korn (2012) in Saint Petersburg. Vocalist Artem "Nel'son" Lotskikh, who joined in the mid-2000s, remains a core member today.
