History
Steps are a British dance-pop group formed in 1997, consisting of Lee Latchford-Evans, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian "H" Watkins. Pop producer Pete Waterman signed them to Jive Records and reworked their line-dance-flavored debut single "5,6,7,8" into a hit, launching a run of 14 consecutive UK top-5 singles, including two number ones, and two UK number-one albums. The group sold over 22 million records worldwide and was nominated for a BRIT Award for Best Newcomer in 1999 - the same year they opened for Britney Spears on her debut American tour. Steps split in December 2001 after Richards and Watkins left to form the duo H & Claire, but reunited in 2011 for a Sky Living documentary and a chart-topping compilation, then again in 2017 for new albums including "What the Future Holds" (2020), whose title track was co-written by Sia. In 2022 their "Platinum Collection" made Steps the first British mixed-gender group to score number-one albums in four different decades.
