History
Robbie Williams (born Robert Peter Williams, 13 February 1974, Stoke-on-Trent, England) rose to fame as a member of the UK boy band Take That from 1990 to 1995, before leaving to launch a solo career. His 1996 debut single, a cover of George Michael's "Freedom", reached number two in the UK, and his 1997 debut album Life thru a Lens included the hit "Angels", one of the defining British pop ballads of the era. Across the late 1990s and 2000s he became one of the UK's biggest solo pop stars, blending pop, rock, and dance-pop, and by 2008 had sold more albums in the UK than any other British solo artist, with worldwide sales exceeding 77 million. He holds a Guinness World Record for selling 1.6 million tour tickets in a single day after announcing his 2006 world tour. Williams briefly rejoined Take That in 2010 before departing again to continue solo work; a biographical film about his life, Better Man, was released in 2024.
