History
Reef are an English rock band formed in 1993 in Glastonbury, Somerset, by singer Gary Stringer and bassist Jack Bessant, joined by guitarist Kenwyn House and drummer Dominic Greensmith (from Barnstaple, Devon). Their sound fused Britpop-era alternative rock with a soulful, riff-driven bluesiness. Signed to Sony's S2 Records, the band broke through with the gold-certified debut album Replenish (1995) and the single "Naked." Their second album, Glow (1997), topped the UK Albums Chart and went platinum, powered by "Place Your Hands," which reached number six on the UK Singles Chart and remains their best-known song. Between 1995 and 2000 Reef notched nine UK Top 40 singles and have sold more than three million albums worldwide. One notable piece of trivia: decades after release, "Place Your Hands" still sells roughly 1,000 copies a week, a streak tracked by its own dedicated fan Twitter account. The band split in 2003 and reformed in 2010, continuing to perform and record since.
