History
ODESZA is an American electronic music duo from Bellingham, Washington, formed in 2012 by Harrison Mills (aka Catacombkid) and Clayton Knight (aka BeachesBeaches), who met as freshmen at Western Washington University. Their self-released debut album, Summer's Gone, arrived in 2012, followed by the 2013 EP My Friends Never Die and their Ninja Tune label debut, In Return (2014). The duo blends indietronica, electropop, chillwave, future bass and trap into a lush, festival-ready sound built on layered samples and horn-driven builds. A Moment Apart (2017) reached number three on the Billboard 200 and topped the Dance/Electronic Albums chart, while their fourth album, The Last Goodbye, followed in 2022. ODESZA has picked up multiple Grammy nominations, including Best Remixed Recording for the RAC mix of "Say My Name" (2016) and two nods tied to A Moment Apart in 2018. In 2015 they launched their own label, Foreign Family Collective, to spotlight emerging artists. One quirky detail: the band's name comes from the sunken boat of Mills' uncle, itself named after the Ukrainian city of Odesa, respelled to avoid a clash with a Scottish synth act called Odessa.
