History
Hybrid is a British electronic music group formed in 1995 in Swansea, Wales, by Mike Truman, Chris Healings, and Lee Mullin. Emerging from the UK breakbeat scene, the trio quickly folded in progressive house and trance influences, building a cinematic sound centered on orchestral recordings layered over electronic production. Their 1999 debut album, Wide Angle, brought wider recognition: notably, they hired the Russian Federal Orchestra for its string arrangements, and vocalist Julee Cruise appeared on several tracks, including the charting single "Finished Symphony." That same year Hybrid supported Moby on tour. Their orchestral, film-score sensibility led Hollywood composer Harry Gregson-Williams to bring them onto soundtracks for Man on Fire, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Total Recall, alongside a long-running collaboration with director Tony Scott that lasted until his death in 2012. Vocalist Charlotte Truman joined in 2007; after founding member Chris Healings departed in 2015, Hybrid continued as the duo of Mike and Charlotte Truman, releasing Light of the Fearless (2018) and Black Halo (2021). Over their career the group has produced more than a hundred remixes for artists including U2, Moby, and R.E.M.
