History
The Prodigy are an English electronic music band formed in Braintree, Essex, in 1990 by producer and keyboardist Liam Howlett, who met dancers Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill at a local nightclub. Their sound moved from early rave and breakbeat hardcore toward the harder, punk-infused "big beat" style that defined their mid-1990s work. Flint, initially a dancer, became the band's snarling frontman and vocalist, while MC Maxim joined as a vocalist; Thornhill left the lineup in 2000. Their 1997 album "The Fat of the Land" topped the charts in 18 countries and included the singles "Firestarter," "Breathe," and "Smack My Bitch Up," cementing the band as one of the biggest crossover acts to emerge from British electronic music. "Firestarter" reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in 1996. Keith Flint died in March 2019; the band has continued recording and touring since, with Liam Howlett remaining its sole constant member and primary songwriter.
