History
Dora is the stage name of Daria Shikhanova, a Russian singer-songwriter born November 30, 1999 in Saratov. Self-taught on guitar with no formal music training, she performed early on under the alias "Mental Affection" before adopting "Dora" - the nickname her mother used for her, after the cartoon character Dora the Explorer. She broke through in 2019 with the EP "Ya ne kommertsiya" and the single "Doradura," whose video drew tens of millions of views and made her a fixture of the young Russian pop-rock scene. Her debut LP "Mladshaya sestra" (Younger Sister, 2019) followed, then "Bozhe, khrani kyut-rok" (2020), "MISS" (2022), and "LOVESONGS" (2024). Dora coined her own genre label, "cute rock" (kyut-rok), for a sound built on girlish vocals layered over heavy guitars and drums, citing Avril Lavigne as an early influence. In 2021 she collaborated with rapper Platina on the hit "San Loran." She has named Grechka and Monetochka as artists whose career paths she deliberately modeled her own on.
