Darude
Progressive house from the 2010s: rolling arpeggiated synths, sidechained bass, four-on-the-floor kick, hypnotic and euphoric in feel. A name-free Suno recipe that reproduces the signature sound without tripping the artist-name filter.
Style: Progressive house
History
Darude is the stage name of Finnish producer and DJ Ville Virtanen (born 17 July 1975 in Eura, Satakunta), who began making trance and house tracks in 1995 while studying in Turku. His 1999 single "Sandstorm" became a global hit, selling roughly two million copies, reaching No. 3 in the UK, and topping Finland's dance chart for seventeen weeks; it later achieved UK platinum status and turned into one of the internet's most recognizable meme sounds, used everywhere from gaming streams to sports broadcasts. His debut album, Before the Storm (2000), sold 800,000 copies worldwide and won three Finnish Grammy Awards. Follow-up albums Rush (2003), Label This! (2007), and Moments (2015) kept him touring internationally; in 2011 he co-founded the label EnMass Music. In 2019 he represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest with "Look Away," though the song did not qualify for the final. Deadmau5 has credited "Sandstorm" with helping push electronic dance music into the North American mainstream in the early 2000s.
