History

Christopher Comstock performs in a white helmet with an X for each eye, and confirmed his identity only years after the project started. Alone, released in 2016, established the formula: a bright sawtooth lead, trap hi-hats, and a drop built from a single repeated melodic figure rather than a wall of noise. Silence with Khalid followed in 2017, then Happier with Bastille in 2018, and both sat on pop radio for months. The Joytime albums keep the instrumental side of the project running. In February 2019 he played a set inside Fortnite, performed to players' avatars, one of the first live music events staged in a video game at that scale. The helmet does a practical job as well as a visual one, because the character can tour, appear in cartoons and be sold as merchandise with no producer's face attached to any of it.
