History

BBE are remembered for one of the defining records of dream house, the short-lived mid-1990s style that set a simple, haunting piano or synth melody over a steady four-on-the-floor beat and soft, airy pads. The act was an Italian-French production team, and their single Seven Days and One Week, released in the summer of 1996, became a top 10 hit across much of Europe and reached number three in the United Kingdom. The follow-up singles, including Flash, kept to the same recipe of melancholy melody and polished club rhythm, and the debut album Games collected them in 1998. BBE sat in the same wave as Robert Miles and other Italian producers who briefly made instrumental, almost wordless dance tracks a staple of pop radio. A listener recognises their sound by the looping, wistful hook, the clean arpeggios, and the sense of a big-room track that feels more like a daydream than a party.
