History
DJ Dado is an Italian DJ and producer whose name is tied to the dream house boom of the mid-1990s, when instrumental dance tracks built on a single memorable melody briefly ruled European charts. His best known record is X-Files, a club version of Mark Snow's theme for the television series, released in 1996. It kept the eerie whistled motif and the cold, suspenseful mood of the original and set them over a driving four-on-the-floor beat with rolling bass and wide synth pads, which turned a TV cue into a dancefloor hit. In the same period he covered Giorgio Moroder's The Legend of Babel from the restored Metropolis soundtrack, again taking a cinematic, slightly unsettling melody and giving it a steady club pulse. Between 1994 and 2004 he produced dream house and Italo dance and remixed other artists, among them Boy George, Jean-Michel Jarre and the Italian singer Alexia. What marks his sound is the pairing of film and television atmosphere with Italian dance production: moody minor-key themes, glossy synths and a beat that never lets up.
